So December's Ani-manga club was all about laugh out loud manga. As I was creating the booklist, I realized that funny to one person is not funny to another. A perfect example is Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (say that five times fast!) by Yoshio Sawai. I thought it was an absolutely senseless, ridiculous manga about a guy who fought with hair. But then I gave it to two teen boys. Wow, I have never been so amused by teens reading a book. They were cracking up! They got a lot of the parody in the graphic novel too! It actually made me want to try it again. Someday. In the far far future.
Maybe they wouldn't enjoy nearly as much some of my favorite funny manga. Maybe they would. That's what makes this Ani-Manga Club so much fun to be involved with. We all have our favorites--and we all talk about them. And most of the time, there are new readers for them afterwards!
So come join us on the 25th of this month at 4 p.m. to talk up romance manga. We'll be making chocolates too!
Oh and if you're interested, here were some of my favorite funny manga:
Azumanga Daioh by Kiyohiko Azuma
Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori
One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
