Pottermore

Did any of you Harry Potter fans watch the reveal about Pottermore yesterday? No? Well, go see what has all the HP fans online in a frenzy of excitement! Really--go on, I'll wait for you to watch it.

All finished? Great! I really liked the creativity portrayed in the short video. That little touch makes me think that this online interactive Harry Potter experience will be very exciting indeed. I do wonder about the exclusive rights for the downloading of the ebook and the digital audio versions. I wonder what it will mean for library patrons, but is isn't the blog for those thoughts! It's all about the wonders of HP and the fandom that the books created. In case you are interested in more information, the Leaky Cauldron has a few screenshots available for fans to look at and wonder what it all means. All I know for sure is that I'm looking forward to the October opening date!

Harry Potter

If any of you know me, you know I absolutely adore the Harry Potter series. The novels are some of my all-time favorites. The audio versions are fabulously done. Jim Dale does an amazing job with all the voices. Did you know he holds a World Record for the most created character voices in a single audiobook (146 in the Deathly Hallows)? The films are pretty well done adaptations of the novels and have grown in depth and emotion as the films progress. Anyway, we have a new book celebrating the movies--just in time to check it out before watching the final film this July.

Harry Potter Film Wizardry

This nonfiction book contains behind the scenes look through the first six movies. This insider look has the actors' looking back at the films as well. Did you know that in Prisoner of Azkaban a replica of Draco Malfoy was made to be 30% smaller so when Hagrid carried him to the hospital it would appear that Hagrid was larger than he really was? Movie magic, gotta love it. Filled with tidbits, pictures, and extras like Harry's Hogwarts letter, the Quidditch World Cup programme, and the Marauder's Map, this book will capture the imagination of fans of the books, movies, and film making in general.

Check it out today! And don't forget to come to the Harry Potter Hurrah on the 19th of July.

About Us

Foothills Library Teen Staff

Erin is the teen librarian at the Foothills Library, who can't wait for the zombie apocalypse and loves to read dystopian and post-apocalyptic novels to prepare. She also loves historical fiction and believes that she was sometimes born in the wrong century.

Stephanie G is a Library Assistant III at the Foothills Branch, but she started out as a teen volunteer. Although she hated reading when she was young, she doesn't mind it now. Most of what she reads is Youth or Teen fiction.

Main Library Teen Staff

Kearsten is the teen librarian at the Main Glendale Library. She is the queen of book clubs, and will read almost anything – youth, teen, adult, graphic novels, audiobooks, fiction, nonfiction – but prefers genre over realistic, and loves a scary, violent apocalypse.

Ray is a Library Assistant III at the Main Glendale Library and often refers to himself as a Ray of Sunshine...because, well, he is. Generally, he likes books that are funny or quirky, and set in reality. Realistic-fiction or literary fiction are the genres he loves most.

Velma Teague Library Teen Staff

Sunny is the youth and teen librarian at Velma Teague Library. She loves non-fiction books especially ones about different cultures around the world (she also likes a good mystery).

Administrative Staff (all former teen librarians!)

Greg is the administrative librarian at the Velma Teague Branch Library. His reading genre of choice is horror with an emphasis on ghosts and hauntings over blood and guts.

Karen is the Public Services Manager for the Glendale Library System and prefers her fiction dark and her humor bitter. Favorite genres include bone-crushingly realistic fiction, psychological suspense, horror, urban fantasy, and historical fiction.

Kristin is the Manga and Anime Goddess at the Foothills library. Well, actually, she's the administrative librarian there, but who wouldn't want to be a Goddess? When Kristin's not reading for work, she likes light, fluffy books mixed with fantasy and suspense. Pretty much anything, but hardcore science fiction!

Merideth is the administrative librarian at the Main Library. She's loud, red-headed, and way, way too into comics, sci-fi, fantasy and most things geeky.
